This trip takes a full day to truly get the experience. The road currently is a dirt road that many times becomes very challenging in some instances. Its 50 miles away from San Ignacio and about 80% is off road.
All tour operators must respect the army convoy that accompanies us to the site from Augustine Pine Ridge. This is a security protocol that works well.
We normally leave at 7:30 from San Ignacio town and return closer to 6PM. The tour comes out of the site at 2PM but we get the chance to go to a small cave – Rio Frio cave when the road to it allows us. We do stop at a swimming area – Rio On Pools – which is set in a valley on our way back to town. Its a beautiful granite-base river.
