Belize Maya Tours

The ancient Maya left the world written, tangible and intangible evidence of their greatness. It is amazing that the people are still here with us today. Many have held on to cornerstones of they culture such as the religious belief system, the farming system and their food.

In the Classic Period (300AD-900AD) the Cholan speaking Maya who lived here had been in the heyday of celebrating their people’s successes. The hierarchy of their society, with kings at the tip of the social and political triangle, were celebrating their world view, religious development, mathematics, astronomy, engineering, architecture, art, science of farming, medicine and writing, to name a few fantastic achievements.

Throughout the Belizean landscape one can witness mounds literally almost everywhere. The ancient Maya organized and planned their lives in this part of the world and there is evidence at almost every corner. Most of the evidence of the civilization is still under the surface of the earth (interestingly, its safer there, according to archaeologists). Once excavated and conserved however, the city architectural pieces are nothing less than glorious.

From a civilization who could predict eclipses up to 100 years in the future; a people who created a mathematical system using only three symbols and 5 grand systems of time “collecting”, could count into infinity. The ancient Maya were the only fully literate group in ancient America. Their core area was what is today’s Guatemala, Belize, Southern Mexico, and the South Western area of El Salvador and Honduras. They shook the core of this cultural area of the world and left a legacy that today, is mostly jealously guarded by the forest.

So when walking through our forests in Belize, a mound will prompt a totally new conversation of a civilization past. It will be a grand experience to discuss these amazing people and an absolute spiritual opportunity to actually walk through one of these ancient cities that are so readily available to you in Belize.

Its time to come to Belize.
