The planet is pushing its plates upwards. Mountains around the northern world are growing yearly: some by inches and others by centimeters and millimeters. It is an amazing planet we live on indeed.

Seventy percent (70%) of the earth is covered by water. Interestingly, some of the land humans currently live on and vacation to were once below the surface of the sea. Tremendous changes are happening to the planet presently and nothing can presently compare to the changes which started 65 million years ago when a meteorite struck the northeastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula and change the earth, then, forever.

A phenomenon happened after the meteor struck the earth. The northern hemisphere froze because of the stubborn dust the meteor brought with it from the skies. This dust blocked the sunlight from getting to the earth which caused freezing temperatures and starved the plants from their food source which caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. It was the end of the world back then.

A second phenomenon occurred. Because of the freezing of the northern hemisphere a lot of the water from the warmer areas around Central America and Asia were sucked up north. This along with the violent under water volcanic activity pushed land initially below the sea level, out of the sea, some over 3,000 feet high. The soil on this land was a mixture of granite (volcanic stone), and the majority of it limestone. The latter soil type is the remains of crustacean deposit (shells and bones) over millions of years.

Limestone is the reason for so many caves around Belize. Some well known; some hardly known; and some still unknown. Caves have been the highlight of research in chemistry, biology, ecology and among many other academic studies, culture.

Belize has been blessed with a rich deposit of caves and a rich deposit of academic work in many of the fields aforementioned. However, the core of the Belize Cave experience, other than adventure is the cultural deposit the ancient Maya have left traces and evidence of throughout the many caves around Belize.

The underworld awaits your presence. Its calling you. You must obey that call.
