Cave Tubing at Nohoch Che'en - Nine Belize

Cave Tubing at Nohoch Che’en

Inner Tubes For The Ride Into The Underworld.

Caves are found in abundant in Belize. After all, the land was once under the sea at least three times, geologists have confirmed. What this means is that the majority of the soil in Belize is made from the remains of crustaceans over millions of years of deposits. Limestone is a filter-type stone that is permeable to water and thus, cracks and fissures throughout time turn into full blown caves.

There are dry caves and there are wet caves in Belize. While all caves are created by water, some caves have lost the water supply that once gushed through them and hence they are “dry”. Always damp but theres no water to wade through. Others are “wet”. These normally, are the massively interesting ones for a couple reasons at least: 1. If we can get in a canoe, kayak or inner tube and navigate it, we will and, 2. We know that the ancient Maya used caves for ceremonial purposes, hence with even more desire to learn about these ceremonies, we will enter them!

Lets Not Forget The Life Jackets!

Nohoch Che’en is a national park throughout which the Caves Branch river runs. Its 7 miles off the highway between Belize City and the capital city Belmopan. Its found in an interesting piece of high canopy broad leaf forest that helps with the production of the rain that makes certain the cave is “wet” enough for fun!

Do You Prefer These Larger “Rides”?

Cave tubing we call this type of transportation in Belize. We know of no other place in the world where people can get on inner tubes and rafts to go through caverns that are pitch black and always in water. Its a thoughtful moment for the claustrophobic mind but, as we have experienced, never impossible even for the worst claustrophobe. The rest of us absolutely looooveee this adventure-filled activity. Most of the trip is activity of paddling and splashing and in some areas we stop to do some swimming. None-the-less, its difficult to be in such amazing natural areas and not discuss flora and fauna, geology and Maya archaeology.

Paddles Anyone?

So, this experience that we highly recommend here – Cave Tubing – is something for you to think about. Many times our guests ask to combine this tour with zip lining which can be done on site. This trip promises to be something one will talk about for a long time after they leave. Lets go!
